In that chapter Alex is back to Sydney but Tom isn't there because he is in Singapore. Alex plays the bass guitar in Dani's band, "The Beat Crew" and on a free afternoon they make a trip together.
On a beach she kissed him and later they see penguins. Dani mean that the penguins are sweet, but Alex doesn't think so because the little penguins looked lost and afraid under the lights.

I agree with Alex cause that are free animals and not a attraction in a zoo or in a circus.

Sorry, but the pinguins were not the ulterior motive for the author writting this chapter. As far as I concered Alex is afraid that Dani could take into consideration that he only likes beeing in the spotlight because of earning money. Don't you think that it's the most horrorble thing, your girlfriend could made up a wrong view about you ?
